Weekend referees, ARs & TMOs: 5-7 May

Quarter finals of the URC this weekend and the familiar sights of referees Andrew Brace and Jaco Peyper are in the mix, alongside two of the ‘up and coming’ brigade – Italy’s Andrea Pairdi (top right) and Wales’ Craig Evans. It’s the final round of the regular Premiership season in England and it’s good to see Sara Cox (pic top left) get a run out in Manchester as Sale host Newcastle. It’s Finals weekend in the All-Ireland leagues, with promotions at stake for the clubs. Good luck to all involved in those.

Amber McLachlan (bottom left) will referee the Final of the Super W in Australia where the Queensland Reds host the favourites, the Fijiana Drua. We’re into round 11 of the men’s Super Rugby Pacific competition, where Tarsh Ganley becomes 3rd NZ Female referee to officiate in a Men’s Super fixture, running the line in Melbourne.

In the west, it’s mid season in the US MLR. England’s Joe James (bottom right) begins a ‘visiting ref’ stint – good luck Joe! We’ve also got the match officials across the rest of the MLR, US Women’s Premier League, Currie Cup, the start of the new Women’s Premiers Division in South Africa, plus the RFU Championship Cup semi finals. There’s three rounds left in the Top 14 in France, but it’s the final regular weekend of the ProD2. Oyannax are miles ahead at the top, but they enter a play off window to decide who gets promoted. Cyrille Boulay referees their match against SA XV.

Not the level of game I’d normally cover, but great to hear that the Siam Cup is still being played. The Siam Cup is the second oldest rugby trophy in the world (2nd to the Calcutta cup) and is the annual challenge trophy played for between Jersey RFC and Guernsey RFC at the end of the season – the host venue alternating between the islands. Back in the day it was an international panel appointment, but now an RFU appointment supported by Hampshire Society ARs and sideline crew. Good luck to all involved.
