2021 Rugby Law Book and laws app now available

Given we get an influx of new website visitors at this time of year (welcome!), it’s helpful to offer you easy access to the laws of rugby – a core resource for anyone who needs/wants it.

The laws of the game are a complex beast, used in a complex game, with many variables. And we’ll be here to hopefully help clear up things as and when they arise in the games you may be watching. You can download the 2021 law book from us here.

Also, World Rugby have launched a revamped version of its laws App, and given the laws website a lick of paint too. For anyone on Android, my man in Dublin tells me it should be given the green light by the app approvals overlords next week, so hold fire for a few days. [Sat update: it’s now available on Android]

Improved search on World Rugby laws app

Having been somewhat critical of the old versions, the 2021 version of the app has some new, much-welcome functionality – the search actually works as you can see here, hunting down the phrases as you type. The app also now includes the law application guidelines which until now were solely on the WR website. A helpful addition for those looking for the guidelines before they head our way to criticise what they’re seeing on the television.

The laws are now available for free in 12 languages to support rugby’s global growth outside its traditional borders, so for anyone – fan, referee, player or coach, the 2021 Laws of the Game is a must-have.

If you’re curious about the arm waving that the referees do, the app features video examples and illustrations of the referee signals. For those overseeing other forms of the game, you can also find the law variations for Under 19, Sevens and 10s formats.

We would also encourage you to have a go at the World Rugby Laws Exam, where you can obtain a personalised laws awareness certificate. We will want to see a copy of this before debating law matters with you… (joke…maybe..)

Happy reading!
