- Christabelle Lim named Referee of the Year
- 2025-26 preparation well under way
Congratulations to the Singapore Society of Rugby Union Referees (SSRUR) who celebrated their 75th anniversary recently. Their first community meeting was held at the Singapore Cricket Club in August 1950, and so the anniversary marks an enduring commitment to the development and integrity of rugby in Singapore.
They currently have a community of over 120 active referees spanning various backgrounds, ages, and levels of experience, SSRUR has grown into one of the most diverse and dedicated officiating groups in Asia.
From junior school tournaments to the elite Singapore Rugby Union Premier League, SSRUR referees officiate more than 1,500 matches annually, including supporting international events like the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series held in Singapore.
“This is a truly exciting milestone for our Society,” said David Hope, President of the Singapore Rugby Referees Society. “To celebrate 75 years of volunteer-led officiating reflects our strength, unity, and passion. Our Society brings together a wonderfully diverse group of individuals – young and old, male and female – all committed to the sport they love. It’s an honour to see our referees not only make
rugby possible in Singapore every weekend but also represent us at global tournaments abroad. This anniversary is a celebration of every whistle blown and every game made possible through service.”
SSRUR celebrated their 75th anniversary with their awards night for the 24-25 season! We’re told it was an amazing get-together for their referees and stakeholders from SRU and the clubs and our sponsors.

The awards for 2024-25 went to:
Rising Star (junior referee) – Shane O’Hehir
Most committed referee – Darroch Chua
Slemat Rakisan Trophy (Referee of the Year) – Christabelle Lim
Congratulations all three, and well done to all referees who’ve made the season a success. Good luck for your 2025-26 season of rugby ahead!
