With teh scheduled European competitions cancelled, there’s very few games around this weekend, so enjoy what you can.
Currie Cup will be back next week as planned with their semi-finals and it’s still off-season elsewhere in the South. The Top14 are now using the weekend to play games postponed earlier in the season, as is the Pro14 with Glasgow and Edinburgh playing the game that was postponed last week because of a frozen pitch – Mike Adamson and his team will try again on Saturday.
The Greene King Championship in England, the second-tier league below the Premiership, is due to begin again in the Spring, and with a year since their last actual matches, three of the sides have decided to set up a round-robin competition – the Trailfinders Challenge Cup. Ealing, Doncaster, and last season’s Prem-relegated side, Saracens, will all play each other, home and away, over the next six weeks, funded by the Ealing sponsors, Trailfinders. The matches will be streamed on the clubs websites as games are still played behind closed doors. The tournament is being played under the regular laws.
