Angus Gardner is World Rugby Referee of the Year 2018

At this evening’s glittering World Rugby Awards ceremony in Monaco, Australia’s Angus Gardner has been named 2018 Referee of the Year. 

Huge congratulations to Angus on picking up this award. He follows last year’s recipient Joy Neville and the 2016 joint winners Alhambra Nievas and Rasta Rasivhenge.

The 34-year-old from Sydney made his Super Rugby debut in 2012 is  one of the most experienced Super Rugby referees. He took charge of this year’s Super Rugby Final. Gardner made his Test debut in 2016 and has been ever-present in the subsequent Test match windows, including the 2017 British Lions tour. He comes off the back of an Autumn international window which saw him taking charge at Twickenham and Marseille, and assist in Dublin, Cardiff.
