The appointments for the final day of the World U20s Championships have been revealed. The final, on Sunday between England and France, goes to the South African, Egon Seconds (pic left). He’ll be assisted by Dan Jones from Wales and Damon Murphy from Australia. Shane McDermott from New Zealand is the TMO.
Seconds, from Cape Town, is one of the recent player-turned-referee group, having played Super Rugby level for the Stormers (2002-2008) and the Griquas (2009-10). He was also a Springbok 7’s international and won a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He joined the SARU refereeing system in 2013, rising up through the Contender Squad, National Panel and Premier Panel, before joining the SANZAAR list in 2017.
All, bar three, of the current brigade of Summer international referees officiated at the World U20s in the past, so the hopes will be high for his onward career.
