The road to Japan’s Rugby World Cup 2019 starts this weekend for the African nations, as the Africa Gold Cup kicks off in Namibia. As we reported here, the South African’s are providing the referees for all those fixtures, with JD Jadezweni kicking off in Namibia who play Uganda, before Quinton Immelman oversees Zimbabwe v Morocco. The overall winner of the Gold Cup this year will automatically qualify for Japan.
In other RWC matches, Germany play Portugal to determine who plays off against Samoa to determine the final spot in Rugby World Cup Pool A. The RFUs Tom Foley is the referee for that one.
In the wider Summer international window, we see the teams of 3 rotating around, where in most cases one of last weekend’s ARs takes the whistle. Paul Williams steps into the middle in Australia as they try to make it two wins against Ireland. Luke Pearce and Gus Gardner swap roles as New Zealand take on France. There’s plenty of experience out there in the other matches as well.
