Lions tour appointments out on Monday

On Monday, the iRB will release the summer refereeing appointments, which will include the Lions tour of Australia.

During the last tour of South Africa, the iRB broke with the historical protocol of not appointing officials from the Lions countries, with Wayne Barnes, Alain Rolland and Nigel Owens officiating in the midweek Lions tests.

So, will they do it again? Of the 10 top tier iRB referees, only the following aren’t from either Australia or the Lions countries

  • Jerome Garces (FFR)
  • Craig Joubert (SARU)
  • Jaco Peyper (SARU)
  • Romain Poite (FFR)
  • Chris Pollock (NZRU)

Will the IRB stick with these guys?

What do you think? Who are your Lions referees?

  1. Personally, I think they’ll stick with neutral refs for the main 3 tests, but then use full IRB pool for the others. Guessing Nigel Owens will get a run out – maybe Poite and Barnes (again).

  2. 1st test – chris pollock
    2nd test – romain poite
    3rd test – craig joubert
